DO YOU WORK WITH BOTH BOY AND GIRL STUDENT-ATHLETES?
Yes! I work with both boys and girls. I have vast contacts throughout college sports (men’s and women’s coaches, athletic directors, presidents, etc.).
IS IT EASY TO PLAY COLLEGE BASKETBALL AND LAND ON A COLLEGE TEAM?
No. There is nothing easy about it. However, college basketball players come in all shapes and sizes. There are 500,000 high school players in men’s basketball and 500,000 in women’s basketball, and only 5% play college. There are roughly 32,000 college players in men’s and women’s basketball.
DO I HAVE TO BE A SUPERSTAR TO PLAY COLLEGE BASKETBALL?
No. When a college coach is putting a roster together, they have to have different kinds of players who can fill specific roles. Coaches need players with different skill sets depending on the style of play. Coaches need players with great attitudes. They also need players that are good teammates and assist with positive team chemistry. Not everyone can be a superstar.
HOW MANY DIFFERENT LEVELS OF PLAY ARE THERE IN COLLEGE HOOPS?
There are 5 levels. Div I, Div II, Div III, NAIA, Junior College. Each level has their strengths and weaknesses. The key is finding the right fit for you and your abilities.
WHAT IS THE EASIEST WAY TO LAND ON A COLLEGE TEAM?
There are NO EASY WAYS. You have to formulate an ACTION PLAN and execute your plan to perfection. You have to be persistent and go about it in a first-class manner at all times. Your grades and basketball stats speak for themselves and form your player profile.
DO ALL LEVELS HAVE FULL SCHOLARSHIPS?
Yes. There are various forms of athletic and academic aid. Every college and university have skilled financial aid advisors to assist your specific needs with the process.
CAN MY PARENTS BUY MY WAY ON A COLLEGE TEAM?
No. College coaches are hired to win and produce college graduates. If they do not win, they lose their job. Plain and simple. So, they work extremely hard in finding quality players and athletes who can help them win. They need players who can play specific roles on their respective teams.
IS IT EASY TO CONTACT A COLLEGE COACH?
No. College coaches get hundreds of kids reaching out to them every day, all year. Most players/parents have no idea how to go about it and get frustrated and give up on the thoughts of playing. When I was coaching, I received 250-300 emails daily. There are proven ways that work in making contact with college programs that I teach in the Recruiting Success Expander.
WHAT ARE COLLEGE COACHES LOOKING FOR IN PLAYERS?
Motivated, athletic players who are skilled at fundamentals (shooting, dribbling, passing, catching, defense, free throws, etc.). Also, they like athletes with excellent grades, so once they arrive on campus, they can take care of business in the classroom. But each program has their share of academic issues...not everyone has straight A's or B's.
HOW DO I KNOW HOW TO PREPARE MATERIALS TO SEND TO A COLLEGE COACH?
It is difficult if you do not know what you are doing. There is a proven system that I provide to assist you with this process (bio sheet, academic profile, statistics, film, pictures, etc.).
DO I NEED TO PLAY AAU BASKETBALL TO MAKE IT TO THE COLLEGE LEVEL?
Not necessarily. It certainly can be helpful if in the right situation. It can be a waste of time and money if not in the right situation. However, it is not a requirement.
HOW IMPORTANT ARE MY STATISTICS ON MY HIGH SCHOOL TEAM?
Stats certainly can be very helpful, but many players make it to the college level without big statistics supporting them. They find other ways to make themselves a valuable asset. Every college team is made up of a collection of high schoolers, transfer students and invited walk-ons.

HOW MANY COLLEGES OUT THERE HAVE COLLEGE TEAMS THEY RECRUIT TO?
Over 2,000 colleges and universities with five different levels. (Div I, Div II, Div III, NAIA, JuCo)
HOW DO I PAY FOR COLLEGE IF I DO NOT RECEIVE A FULL BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP?
You might receive money through various other forms of financial aid and scholarships that each college or university has in place (scholarships, Pell Grants, other grants, endowed funding, work study). Each college and university have a financial aid office that will walk you through the process.

HOW BIG A ROLE DOES MY ACADEMICS PLAY IN LANDING ON A COLLEGE TEAM?
Massive, if your grades are good to excellent. Bad academics can be overcome if you work hard to better grades soon enough. ACT/SAT college entrance exams also play a huge role in landing more opportunities on college campuses. Poor academics have kept thousands of good players from competing at the college level.

HOW MUCH MONEY CAN A BASKETBALL SCHOLARSHIP BE WORTH?
Anywhere from $250 to $250,000 depending on the college or university you attend and what your athletic and academic credentials can get you. In-state colleges and universities are more affordable. Out-of-state colleges and universities are much more expensive. Out-of-state tuition and fees can run as high as $70,000 per year.
HOW DOES COLLEGE BASKETBALL RECRUITING WORK?
a) Identify potential recruits
b) In-depth evaluations by coaches
c) Verbal offers, visits from coaches and visits to campuses
SHOULD MY HIGH SCHOOL COACH AND AAU COACH ASSIST WITH THIS PROCESS?
Ideally, but it does not always happen. DO NOT PUT YOUR FUTURE IN ANYONE ELSE’S HANDS. TAKE FULL CONTROL OF YOUR OWN DESTINY....coaches are people like us and are busy raising families and working in their professional roles. TAKE YOUR RECRUITING INTO YOUR OWN HANDS. MAKE IT HAPPEN!!!
HOW IMPORTANT IS ATTITUDE IN THIS PROCESS?
Attitude is absolutely the most important key because your future is at stake. Like the "GAME OF LIFE" you will have ups and downs as you work your way through the process.
HOW SOON SHOULD I START THE RECRUITING PROCESS?
The sooner the better. Get yourself on a timeline, starting with your freshmen year. This process will require super hard work and organization with everyone involved. LET’S GO!!!
